John Andrew “Moon” Vehslage
On March 1, 2018, John Andrew Vehslage began his new journey in eternal life. Each of us know in our hearts that John fought the good fight and prepared himself and his family for his new journey.
John was born in Paducah, Kentucky on February 9, 1964, the son of Carmen Smallwood Vehslage and Paul E. Vehslage.
Growing up in Seymour, Indiana, John challenged himself while striving to live life to the fullest. He was actively involved in sports at Seymour High School, excelling in basketball and was an active member of the Boy’s Club.
John continued his education at Indiana University, Bloomington, obtaining a bachelor degree in Business and was also a member of ACACIA Fraternity.
On May 19, 2000 he married the love of his life, Shari Tressler, in Ochos Rios, Jamaica. Soon after, in 2002, John and Shari became the proud parents of Carmen Jayd Vehslage.
John’s thoughtful smile and engaging presence will be dearly missed by his siblings, Paul Vehslage, Susan (Russ) Terkhorn, David (Debbie) Vehslage and Philip (James Mease) Vehslage in addition to in-laws and friends who he considered family.
John is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road. The service will be held at 11 A.M. the following day, Wednesday, March 7, at Castleton United Methodist Church.
John, Shari and Carmen encourage each of you to celebrate a life well lived, to love each other, and to smile as we all continue on our path.
We love you to the Moon and back.

John had an infectious smile and was very proud of his family. He lived vicariously through his daughter and enjoyed a special relationship with his wife Shari. He never waned in his pursuit to defeat his affliction. He was steady and brave to the very end. John will be missed by all. We will miss you Moonie!

I only met John one time and that was at fall parent-teacher conferences. I have Carmen in my HBS class at McKenzie. Even though I spoke with him for only a short period of time, I could tell how much he adored his daughter. She meant the world to him and he meant the world to her. He wore a hat that Carmen had given him and he referred to it as his lucky hat. It gave him hope during a time when it was difficult to muster some. I wish you all strength and courage to take it one day, one week, one month at a time. God bless.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with John in Fishers some years ago and his easy-going, friendliness was contagious and he was truly an interesting and fun person to spend time with and discuss our families and challenges in raising children in these challenging times.
John had a way of addressing and interacting with anyone in a caring, compassionate, and empathetic manner. John was a joy to be around and we laughed and shared many good memories and laughs together for a year or more.
John loved his family and that is what he spoke most frequently of in conversation.
